About Tinui Playgroup

A vital meeting place for rural families, where connection, learning, and community spirit come together in the heart of the Wairarapa.

Who We Are

Tinui Playgroup is more than just a place for children to play—it's the beating heart of our rural community. Nestled in the picturesque Wairarapa region, we provide a warm, inclusive space where families with children aged 0-5 years can come together to share the journey of early childhood.

Our playgroup is parent and caregiver-led, meaning every family has a voice in how we run and what we offer. We believe that when families connect, children thrive. Whether you're a long-time local or new to the district, you'll find open arms and friendly faces here.

We meet regularly at the Tinui Hall on Blackhill Road, a space that has hosted generations of community gatherings and now rings with the laughter of our youngest members.

Our Facilities & Approach

Our home at the Tinui Hall provides a spacious, safe environment with dedicated areas for different types of play. Indoors, you'll find a treasure trove of toys, books, and creative materials that spark imagination and development.

Outside, children can run freely in our secure play area, dig in the sandpit, or join in gardening activities that connect them with nature and the rhythms of rural life. We also have access to the hall's kitchen facilities for shared morning teas and baking activities.

Our approach is child-led and play-based, following the principles of Te Whāriki, New Zealand's early childhood curriculum. We provide gentle structure with free play, group activities, story time, and music sessions that celebrate our Kiwi heritage.
